Approximately 1,400 lf of 4-ft to 10-ft wide attached asphalt sidewalk and path, separated from the street by concrete curb and gutter, were included in the work. The existing bridge rail was replaced for safety and aesthetic enhancement (intended to better integrate the streetscape with typical Town of Avon design standards). The bridge over the Eagle River on Stonebridge Road is located in highway right-of-way. The Town acquired funding from CDOT for the bridge rail replacement and was acting as the Local Agency under an Inter-Governmental Agreement for the project, so communication and coordination with CDOT was a priority.
Plans, specifications and contract documents were prepared in CDOT standard format, based on M&S Standard Plans and "Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction", and submitted for review and approval in both preliminary and final form before advertisement for bids. IME subcontracted with Western Bionomics for biological resource assessment and clearance, Hepworth-Pawlak Geotechnical, Inc. for the soils investigation and report, Lonco for structural engineering of the bridge rail replacement, Architectural Engineering Consultants for the lighting design and Eric Smith Associates for the aesthetic design of the new stone monuments on the bridge. We also supported the Town during the pre-bid meeting and contractor selection, and provided limited construction assistance services while the project was being built.

In addition, approximately 2,000 lf of cable rails and combined boulder and MSE retaining walls were used. A portion of the path was landscaped and irrigated. Coordination with CDOT was a priority for this project as much of the trail was in Interstate 70 right-of-way. The cost estimates included quantity takeoffs for asphalt, retaining walls, railing, road base, utility relocation and adjustment and guardrail relocations. IME subcontracted with Western Bionomics for environmental services, Terrasan for landscaping and irrigation system design, and H-P Geotech for the soils investigation and report. We also assisted the Town in obtaining the required environmental clearances and drafting the license agreement with CDOT.
